New Mexico Quilters Association

The Organization

Organized in 1974, NMQA is an educational organization whose main purpose is to stimulate a greater interest in quilting, in its membership and in the community at large, by providing information about quilting and by providing instruction and training to people who are interested in the art of quilting. The proceeds from our annual Balloon Quilt Raffle support NMQA programs. NMQA operates a 501(c)4 corporation with a team of volunteers.

Membership

The guild includes ~300 members each year. The $25 annual fee entitles members to:

• enjoy monthly guild meetings
• learn from internationally known guest speakers
• participate in hands-on workshops with top quilters and fiber artists from around the nation
• receive free demonstrations and patterns
• have access to an expansive library of quilting books, CDs, DVDs and magazines
• share in the opportunities to showcase member quilts
• take part in a variety of Special Interest Groups (SIG): separate groups that focus on particular quilting interests - e.g., appliqué, art quilts, miniatures, mixed media, landscapes, Heritage Farm, block swaps. President's Welcome

Friendship and a warm welcome are the greatest motivations to attend NMQA meetings.

• Please wear your name tag.
• Go out of your way to speak to new members or guests or to someone new to you.
• Invite new members or guests to sit with you.
• Invite new members or guests to join your special interest group(s).
• Exchange phone numbers. Arrange car pools. Plan getting together to quilt.

NMQA Spring Fling Quilt Show

When: May 18 – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, May 19 – 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Where: Albuquerque Convention Center 401, 2nd Street NW

Why: to publicize NMQA and the evolution of quilting through the years, to enjoy the talents of fellow quilters and to SHOP!

This is a non-judged show and not limited to NMQA members, so tell your friends with wonderful quilts that they are welcome and we’d like to show their quilts. There will be a silent auction, door prizes, great quilts, including a vintage quilt display and forty traveling quilts from the 2011 Hoffman Challenge. And of course, wonderful vendors! Friday at 12:00 noon we will have a “flash mob” on Second Street in front of the Convention Center. Bring a small quilt to wave during this event and join in the fun!

Summer Quilting Retreat

When: June 15 - 17th

Where: Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown

Friday 4pm Retreat check-in / Sunday 12pm Retreat end

Meetings

NMQA meetings are held in Albuquerque at University of New Mexico Continuing Education building, 1634 University NE at Indian School. Meetings are open to the public; $5 fee for non-members.
