New Mexico State Fair

State Fair Quilt Competition

Each year, NMQA provides the certified judge for quilt entries into the State Fair. We provide volunteers to take the quilts in from participants around the state, and help categorize the quilts and assist in the judging. NMQA offers a free non-transferable membership for the following year to the Quilting Rosette Winners of the State Fair (with the exception of the Best Group Rosette). Winning quilts are on display in the Creative Arts Building during the nine-day Fair event, festooned with ribbons provided by the NM State Fair team.

To enter your quilt in the New Mexico State Fair, it must comply with the following general rules and other State Fair guidelines found here. Include the Entry Form.

NMQA State Fair Challenge

NMQA also has a separate competition just for its members, called the State Fair Challenge. These quilts must include a specific fabric provided through the guild for the challenge. The ‘challenge’ fabric is intended to be the focus fabric, and must be recognizable in the final quilts. The size must be no larger than 25 by 25 inches. These quilts are judged separately from the other State Fair quilts.  They are also on display in the Creative Arts Building at EXPO NM during the annual Fair. Ribbons are awarded for first through third place, judges choice, and honorable mention. All entries receive a ribbon for their participation.  NMQA offers a free non-transferable membership for the following year to the First Place Winner of the NMQA State Fair Challenge.
