Quilt Bank is a respected tradition of NMQA. Members create stunning quilts for not-for-profit groups in the Albuquerque metropolitan community to raffle for their fundraising and outreach efforts. These are all original, handmade quilts made from quality fabrics in a variety of patterns and sizes. In a typical calendar year, at least a dozen groups/events use our quilts as a means to raise money for their organization--such as raffles, silent auctions or live auctions. A single quilt is known to bring in as much as $1200 in a raffle. The sky’s the limit. Reports from a single year found that total monies raised for events raffling NMQA quilts were in excess of $6,000.
NMQA’s budget supports the purchase of fabrics, batting and supplies for the quilts. However, we are blessed to have peoples’ UFOs (unfinished objects) donated, along with complete quilt tops so that we can help even more organizations. Even more so, members contribute their time and talents as longarm quilters to do the machine quilting on the sandwiched quilt tops in exchange for a tax write-off. This adds so much depth and beauty to the quilts. NMQA proudly partners with Bob’s Sewing and Vacuum Center on Albuquerque’s Westside for storage of our supplies and a spacious classroom where our sew-ins are held.
