Mad Modern Ruler Work Sampler

for Beginners

with Kate Quinn

The Mad Modern Beginning rulerwork class teaches template quilting using a 12” patchwork block as the foundation and the Westalee Rulerwork kit of tools.  This format is suitable for all skill levels.  No previous experience is required.

Before class, make this simple block and have it ready to quilt -- you'll end up with a sampler of different quilting designs, all done with rulers! Though this is a simple pattern, you can also just use a marked, solid fabric for class so you can learn without worrying about making the block.

Kate Quinn has been a national educator for Sew Steady/Westalee products since 2016.  She also worked as a Handi Quilter Longarm educator from 2018-2019.  Beginning in January 2022, she became a national educator for Janome of America, specializing in longarm skills and ProStitcher training.

Class topics include

  • Setting up your machine for rulerwork
  • Installing the ruler foot properly
  • How to move and stitch with templates
  • Stitching several designs including a center motif with echo, curved crosshatching, and two fills for smaller squares, as well as stitching in the ditch
  • Troubleshooting stitching problems and movement challenges.
